The recent reorganization of NASA's microgravity research program bodes well for a more mature outlook on what can or cannot be accomplished in space. The grandiose claims about space-based research leading to cures for cancer and AIDS and the growth of crystals in space leading to a commercial bonanza for pharmaceutical companies are gone. The trend now is toward solid, peer-reviewed studies of gravitational biology, and, with the launch of the International Space Station, scientists involved in this area have prospects for better space laboratory facilities than ever before.
