2. In 25 infants given a prepared formula, Similac without Fe, from 2 to 12 months old mean Hb concentration at 9 and 12 months was significantly higher than the corresponding mean value in 13 infants given cow's milk for the same period. Mean corpuscular volume, serum Fe and transferrin saturation were significantly higher at 6 and 9 months, but not at 12 months, in the formula group. Both groups were given cereals fortified with Fe from 3 months old and their total daily Fe intake was about 7.5 mg.
