From a review of the literature and the author's own experience it is considered that 10.5 g/100 ml is a more realistic Hb value below which anaemia can be considered to be present in children over 6 months old than that of about 11 g/100 ml as concluded by WHO (Nar 29, p.1458). Of 268 children studied 81 were malnourished; 53 of the malnourished children had anaemia according to the WHO Hb value and of those 75% were deficient in Fe.
