Hypokalaemia in megaloblastic anaemias

Of 23 patients with megaloblastic anaemia, all but one showed a striking decrease in serum K during treatment with 1 mg hydroxocobalamin per day for 7 days with or without 10 mg folic acid every 8 h. Serum K fell rapidly within 48 h of the onset of the reticulocyte response; at the same time K increased in erythrocytes.
