The activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD), pyruvate kinase and catalase were estimated in the erythrocytes of 13 breast-fed infants from 8 to 13 months old and in hospital because of protein-calorie malnutrition and results were compared with those for normal adults and those for normal infants reported in the literature. Average values for malnourished infants and normal adults were 21.3 and 17.4 IU G-6-PD/1011 erythrocytes, 30.0 and 17.3 IU pyruvate kinase/1011 erythrocytes and 449.5 and 461 catalase units/109 erythrocytes.
