The effect of chloxyl on the external secretion of the pancreas in opisthorchiasis

The total external pancreatic secretion, its pH and the serum amylase and lipase levels, as indices of pancreatic function, were studied before, and for 6 months after, treatment with chloxyle in 35 patients suffering from opisthorchiasis. Chloxyle at 300 mg/kg given as 3 divided doses after food caused no change in pancreatic secretion immediately after treatment indicating that the drug had no toxic effect on pancreatic activity. At 6 months after treatment the total external pancreatic secretion almost doubled and its alkalinity increased reaching normal levels. There was no change in the serum amylase and lipase levels throughout the period of observation. (The method used was the same as in a previous study; see Hm/A, 41, 3296).
