All except six of the 75 patients reported by Goldstein and Louie to be suffering from primary pulmonary coccidioidomycosis (Coccidioides immitis) following a visit to Antelope Plains, California, returned to full military duty in three to five months, the remainder being transferred to non-combatant employment in eight months. Ten more cases were reported from a new endemic area near the California-Arizona border, of whom four showed morbilliform skin manifestations: all are expected to return to full duty after a maximum period of three months. The application of sulphonamide chemotherapy in various phases of the disease proved to be valueless, but an almost immediate improvement followed the treatment of two acutely ill patients with high precipitintitre convalescent blood.
