Two cases with primary pulmonary cryptococcosis diagnosed by transbronchial biopsy

Cases are reported in a 73-yr-old female farmer and in an 18-yr-old male student. Both patients were asymptomatic, but had abnormal shadows on chest roentgenograms. Cryptococcus neoformans was identified in transbronchial biopsy material in both cases. The first patient was treated by surgical resection of the mass and the 2nd patient received therapy with intravenous miconazole (600 mg/day for 17 days), followed by oral 5-fluorocytosine (6 g/day).
