Nifedipine retard has been quite promising. The administration of 20 mg two to three times daily caused an important fall in the blood pressure both in mild and moderate hypertension and was well tolerated. Nifedipine seems to be a very effective antihypertensive agent. The formulation of nifedi× pine retard enhances the patient's compliance. This drug must be observed quickly and relentlessly because it represents an important step on the management of hypertension.
