Demonstration of an autoantibody associated with anaplasmosis

An autoantibody-erythrocyte complex was demonstrated in calves infected with Anaplasma marginale. The autoantibody was shown to be a gamma-globulin that reacted as a single precipiting band in immunoelectrophoresis tests. The immunoferritin test was shown to be extremely sensitive. There seemed to be a correlation between the passive haemagglutination titre and the degree of anaemia.
