Incidence of so-called free blood cells in pregnant women

In 7 of a total of 19 blood type A2 pregnant women examined (37%), an increased number of non-A blood cells was found. In blood type A1 and B pregnant women, the values of non-A and non-B blood cells were normal. The results provide evidence of the greater variability in the formation of type A substances during pregnancy in women of blood type A2. In 1 pregnant woman, a weak A variant was detected, where the blood cells consisted of 2 types which differed in their A antigenicity (A and Am).
