Annocherin and (2,4) -cis- and trans-annocherinones, monotetrahydrofuran Annonaceous acetogenins with a C-7 carbonyl group from Annona cherimolia seeds

The new cytotoxic monotetrahydrofuran annonaceous acetogenins, annocherin and a mixture of (2,4)-cis- and trans-annocherinones, were isolated from the bioactive methanolic extract of A. cherimolia [A. cherimola] seeds (collected from California, USA). All 3 compounds possessed an unusual 7-carbonyl group. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical and spectral evidence. All 3 compounds exhibited toxicity in the brine shrimp [Artemia salina] lethality test and cytotoxicity against 6 human solid tumour cell lines, with selectivity for the renal cell line (A-498).
