A paper in this issue adds to our understanding of the role of the small GTP-binding protein rab11a in parietal cell membrane trafficking. Duman et al. directly show the functional importance of rab11a in both morphological and secretory changes on stimulation of rabbit parietal cells in primary culture. The researchers show that rab11 associates with H+-K+-ATPase in tubulovesicular membranes with a stoichiometry of 1:1. They also provide a direct link between rab11a disruption and inhibition of parietal cell acid secretory function.
