As a result of light optic and electron microscopic investigation of human cerebral cortex obtained intraoperatively from different zones of the crushed wound that resulted from severe craniocerebral trauma, morphological criteria (widened perivascular and pericellular spaces, per rexin and diapedase hemorrhages, microcysts oedema of neurons, gliocytes and nerve fibres) were established, which, jointly, form an objective focus for considering the crushed wound focus in the cerebrum as an intracranial extensive process and substantiate the indications for its intraoperative removal.
