A letter discusses the successful recovery of Seveso, a site about 16 kilometers north of Milan in Italy that on July 10, 1976, was heavily contaminated by a vapor cloud of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzopara-dioxin released from a reactor making trichlorophenol. The writers assert that the recovery of the 43-hectare area through the establishment of an urban park suggests that Seveso has potential to be a paradigm of restoration ecology.
