A controlled clinical trial has been performed in two groups of 15 children each (age 2-8) suffering from acute bronchopulmonary disorders. One group was treated for 4-14 days (average 8.1 days) with ambroxol syrup at the daily dosage of 45-60 mg, the control group was given s-carboxymethylcysteine for 2-11 days (average 7.6 days) at the daily dosage of 200-300 mg. Antibiotics were given where necessary. The results obtained showed ambroxol to be effective in the treatment of acute pediatric bronchopulmonary disorders. The drug facilitated expectoration from the start, reduced cough, and improved the clinical picture considerably already after 2-3 days. In addition, it was yvell tolerated by the patients. Under the conditions of the above trial, ambroxol acted more readily than the reference drug.
