Male Sprague-Dawley rats 68 days old and weighing 270 g were fed to appetite, nibbling rats, or from 8 to 10 am daily, meal-fed rats, on a diet which provided 19, 12 and 70% of energy as casein, maize oil and glucose, respectively. Treatment was continued until all the rats died or 5 rats from each group were killed at intervals of 1 month and later 3 months up to 18 months.
