Data are presented on the classification of the dopamine receptors of the cardiovascular system. Dopamine receptor agonists and antagonists are described as are biochemical mechanisms of dopamine receptor function including the participation of cyclic nucleotides, phosphoinositides and calcium ions. Potential role of dopamine receptors in the regulation of cardiovascular activity was considered.
