Three antibiotic resistance determinants - to streptomycin, chlorampheLilco] and erythromycin, respectively - from a Staphylococcus aureus strain of human origin (SA1), were transferred via transduction to S. aureus NCTC 8325 and studied. Their localization on independent plasmids, each carrying a single resistance marker, was inferred from the results of the Arber test and transduction to a recombination deficient strain. Some aspects connected with the maintenance in .the host cell of the identified plasmids are presented, as well as considerations on plasmid transfer.
