In a cross bred pony (6 years old) with a 3-week history of mild recurrent signs of abdominal pain, rectal palpation identified an irregular mass associated with the left ovary; this was confirmed by ultrasonography. Exploratory laparotomy identified a freely moving ring-like mass surrounding the left infundibular region and the proximal left uterine horn. Omental attachments were dissected free and the mass was removed. The pony made an uneventful recovery and showed no further signs of abdominal pain. Histological examination of the mass suggested that it was due to a non-specific fibrous reaction consistent with soft tissue trauma. There was no evidence of previous infection. The aetiology of the adhesions is discussed.
