Dexfenfluramine for obesity

FDA approval has been granted to dexfenfluramine as a dietary aid for the treatment of obesity and the maintenance of weight loss. The drug is manufactured by Wyeth-Ayerst under the trade name Redux. The long-term efficacy and safety of the drug are unclear; it has been associated with an increased incidence of primary pulmonary hypertension, which may be fatal.
