A report is given of mycoplasmas recovered from cattle during 1974-1981. A total of 911 pneumonic lungs were examined, and 458 strains of Mycoplasma dispar, 451 strains of Ureaplasma, 286 strains of M. bovirhinis and 24 strains of M. bovigenitalium were found. M. bovis was not found till late in 1981, when 5 strains of that species were isolated, and it is assumed to have been introduced into this country only recently. Since 1979 a selective medium for separation of M. dispar from M. bovirhinis was used, and of 216 strains of M. dispar 46 (21.3%) were recovered in this medium only. In cases of infectious keratoconjunctivitis M. bovoculi was by far the most frequently occuring species; of a total of 23 isolates obtained by examination of 40 cases, 19 were found to belong to that species. Ureaplasma was frequently present in the urogenital tract. About one half of 113 semen samples, 40% of which showed pathologic changes, gave growth of this mycoplasma. The percentage recovery was the same in pathologic and normal semen samples. Ureaplasma were found frequently in the vagina. In herd outbreaks of granular vulvovaginitis, ureaplasmas were constantly found in great numbers in the affected animals, and it is assumed that this mycoplasma is etiologically involved. A total of 134 cases of abortion were examined. Small numbers of Acholeplasma and Ureaplasma were found usually in the placenta only, and rarely in the fetus. No argine-degrading strains were isolated from any site or tissue. The percentage recovery of myocplasmas from pneumonic lungs was fairly constant for all animals 2 wk to 1-2 yr old. A seasonal variation was found, the percentage recovery being highest during the winter months.
