The sudden occurrence of several cases of young pet rats with dry scabby lesions on the tail, head, nose and edges of the pinnae is reported. The rats showed minimal pruritus but had constantly twitching ears. Skin scrapings of the ears revealed large numbers of sarcoptic mange mites. Treatment with ivermectin was apparently successful.
