Effect of trichinosis on blood glucose of rats fed on low and high protein diets

Rats fed on high or low protein diets for 3 weeks were infected with 25 or 30 Trichinella spiralis larvae/g body-weight and the fasting blood glucose levels were determined 8 or 28 days later. The mean fasting blood glucose levels of infected rats on both diets were significantly lower than non-infected controls at 8 days, but at 28 days after infection the differences were not statistically significant. The diets had no effect on blood glucose levels within either the control or infected groups at either period after infection.
