Persistent nodular lesions caused by "bee-sting therapy"

The case is reported of a 65-year-old Italian man who was admitted because of a nodular dermatitis localized to his lombo-sacral region. The patient had been undergoing 'bee-sting therapy' (Apis mellifera) to treat long term arthrosis of the spinal column, since non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs had given only temporary relief. This therapy had been stopped as it was having no effect and the inflammatory lesions appeared at the site of the stings. Specific anti-bee venom IgE was positive by RAST.
