The epidemiology, pathogenesis and pathophysiology of fungal infections in diabetic patients are discussed. The microbiology of Candida and candidosis of the skin, digestive tract, mouth, pharynx, oesophagus, vagina, urinary tract and prostate gland as well as candidaemia, systemic candidosis, candidal sinusitis, Candida peritonitis and cholecystitis are discussed. Infections caused by agents of zygomycosis, Aspergillus, dermatophytes, endemic mycoses and emerging and opportunistic fungal infections are also considered.
