An outbreak of the disease occurred in a commercial rabbit farm in southwest Scotland, in October 1995. Approximately 30 of 255 adult rabbits died over a 24-h period. Most showed no clinical signs, a few were dull and lethargic. Histopathology revealed characteristic changes of coagulative necrosis, haemorrhages were present in only 3 of 7 rabbits examined. Electron microscopy of livers confirmed the presence of rabbit haemorrhagic disease. The disease has been confirmed in one wild rabbit from the same area and reported in others in that area.
