A comparative study of loop smears and copper device smears

The smears prepared from 288 Lippes loop and 285 Cu containing intrauterine devices were compared. The type of cells in both kinds of smears compared could be correlated with the duration of their use. The presence of multinucleate giant histiocytes in loop smears and their complete absence in Cu device smears were noted.
