Plasma and erythrocyte Na and K were estimated by flame photometry in 133 normal adults, 32 pregnant women in their third trimester and 10 infants, all Africans, and in 13 European adult males. There was no significant difference between the plasma or cellular concentrations of ions in normal adults and infants of the 2 races. African pregnant women had low plasma Na relative to normal adults.
