There was studied the participation of immunological mechanisms in the aetiopathogenesis of psoriasis (22 patients) and alopecia areta (21 patients). The resultant values of the tests used were compared with the activity, duration and extent of the pathological changes. In psoriatics there was found a statistically significant increase in the amount of IgA in the serum, a decreased competence of the majority of the patients to be sensitized by DNCB, a decreased response of peripheral blood lymphocytes to PHA and con A stimulation, a statistically significant fall in the percentage of E-rosettes (p < 0.01). In patients with alopecia areata there was ascertained, besides a statistically insignificant decline in the mean values of serum immunoglobulins of all the classes studied (IgG, IgM, IgA), a statistically significant decrease in E-rosette forming peripheral blood lymphocytes (p < 0.01) the percentage of which substantially (statistically insignificantly) increased after the addition of levamisol. Results of the other investigations, i.e. stimulation by phytomitogens, DNCB sensitization, intradermal tests with PPD tuberculin and toxoplasmin, did not differ significantly from the results obtained in persons of the control group. There was not proved any relationship between the resultant values of the tests performed and the extent, activity or duration of the disease.
