Experiments with rats showed that bromantane induced pronounced and long-term (recorded during 8 hours) increase in dopamine release. Tetrodotoxin (1-6 M) perfused through the microdialysis probe partially inhibited bromantane-induced dopamine release. Extracellular concentration of dopamine metabolites 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic and homovanillic acids decreased insignificantly. Possible mechanisms of the effect of bromantane on the dopamine- and serotoninergic brain structures were discussed.
