The main effects of oral contraceptives on nutritional status are increase in triglycerides, decline in glucose tolerance, an apparent increase in the need for folacin, riboflavin and vitamins C and B-6 and a decrease in iron loss. Women at greater risk of nutritional deficits due to oral contraceptives include those who have just had a baby, are planning to have a baby later, already show nutritional deficiencies, have had recent illness or surgery, have poor dietary habits, are still growing or have a family history of diabetes or heart disease.
