These studies were prompted by the observation that seed oils containing cyclo-propenoid fatty acids, in particular malvalic and sterculic acids (present in the triglycerides of plants of the order Malvales) stimulate the incidence and growth of trout liver tumours induced by aflatoxin B1. Methyl sterculate, fed at the same time as aflatoxin B1, increased both the incidence and size of hepatomas in young rainbow trout.
