Three hundred twenty six cases of adult patients with glioma in the cerebral hemisphere treated by post-operative radiotherapy at the General Hospital, Tianjan Medical University from 1976 through 1990 were reviewed. The 1-, 3-, 5- and 10-year survival rate was 76.8%, 62%, 55.7% and 42.1%, respectively in low grade gliomas and the 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival rate was 44.3%, 35% and 27.1% respectively in high grade gliomas. In this study, patients' age, performance status before radiotherapy and histopathologic type of the tumor are important factors influencing the treatment outcome. There is no correlation between radiation dose and survival rate. Since 1988, combined photon and electron beams from linear accelerator have been used with a total dose of 65 apprx 70Gy to the target area.
