The ozone, due to its character rapid and easy application presents notable advantages compared to the traditionally systems used for the sterilization of general culture medium. In this work different bubbling times with ozone (5, 10 and 15 minutes) on a general culture medium were tested in order to evaluate the sterilization level. Results showed that, in addition to present multiple advantages as compared to other systems, rapidity, economy, and facility of application, it does not affect to the nourishing properties of the sterilized culture medium with the intervals of time used. These results permit to conclude that ozone sterilization can be used indistinctively to the wet heat or the filtration method to sterilize general culture medium used in a microbiology laboratory.
