Relatively low wages in the NHS have traditionally been partly compensated by good 'fringe' benefits, such as sick leave agreements. It is perhaps not surprising that sick leave entitlement, and attempts to cut down on sick leave, have been early targets in newly-formed trusts. Below we look at the national agreement that still applies to almost all nurses, midwives and health visitors and at some common problems.
