Hypoglycemic seizures attributable to hypoadrenocorticism in a dog

A case report is give of a middle aged female Miniature Poodle with an acute history of anorexia, weakness vomiting, hypovolaemia, azotaemia and hypoglycaemia. confirmation of the diagnosis was made by indentifying the classic electrolyte abnormalities and by the failure to respond to ACTH stimulation. Hypoglycaemia is reported in 8 to 37% of adrenal insufficient dogs but associated convulsions, which this dog had, appear to be uncommon. The resulting hypoglycaemia is complicated by anorexia and gastrointestinal symptoms, which decrease nutritional intake. This case and the condition in general are discussed.
