The normal i/v dosage of 2.1 ml/kg body wt of 'chloral mag' (a solution containing 4.2% chloral hydrate and 2% magnesium sulphate) required to produce anaesthesia in buffaloes was reduced to 1.6 ml after premedication of 0.1 mg/kg chlorpromazine hydrochloride or 1 mg/kg triflupromazine hydrochloride. With promethazine hydrochloride of 0.1 mg/kg the dosage of chloral mag was reduced to 1.8 ml, but this compound produced a sudden fall in blood pressure. Dipyrone premedication had no effect.
