Suspected cases of feline dysautonomia

The first case, a one-year-old neutered male Persian presented in July 1993 with a history of reduced appetite and protrusion of the nictitating membrane. The second case seen in December 1993 was a 3-year-old neutered female domestic longhair with vomiting, protrusion of the third eyelids and a chronic upper respiratory tract infection. In both cases, clinical signs progressed rapidly and included dysphagia, regurgitation, dilated pupils and frequency of urination/dysuria. In both cases radiographs revealed constipation and bladder distension and contrast studies revealed a megaoesophagus. The first cat died after it developed aspiration pneumonia, the second was destroyed due to the poor prognosis. PM examination was not possible in either case.
