The chapter examines resource and technology issues, concentrating on three particular aspects of their nutritional implications. First, the main agricultural policy variables affecting nutrition are reviewed. Secondly, an analysis is made of policies that affect access to and cost of land, and other production inputs such as improved seed, fertilizer, credit, and irrigation. Finally, the impact of research and development policies on food supply is assessed. In particular, policies must address the requirements of small farmers and landless labourers for modern technologies that are suited to their input resources and which can be used for major staples like maize, sorghum, millet, cassava, and pulses.
