Female Donryu rats weighing 80 to 100 g were given a basal diet high in fat or carbohydrate alone, or with 0.01, 0.05 or 0.1% 6-propyl-2-thiouracil for 14 days after which the liver and kidneys were isolated. Food intake, growth rate and blood glucose of rats given the diet high in fat were depressed in hypothyroidism induced with 0.01 % propylthiouracil. Rats given the high-carbohydrate diet were not affected by 0.01 or 0.05% propylthiouracil.
