Hysteroscopic evaluation of intrauterine progesterone contraceptive system as a treatment for abnormal uterine bleeding

An intrauterine progesterone contraceptive system has been used in 20 patients aged 45-52 affected by dysfunctional uterine bleeding due to glandular hyperplasia (6 cases), focal glandular hyperplasia (8 cases), cystic hyperplasia (4 cases), and adenomatous hyperplasia (2 cases). Hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy were performed every 2 months after insertion of the system. Complete regression or clear improvement were observed in all cases. The question if regression may be considered permanent or temporary remains to be answered.
