170 cases of premature with birth weight less than 2,000 g were analysed. The results demonstrated that the incidence of small for gestational age infant (SGA) was significantly higher in women associated with pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH) than that in normal pregnancy. As compared with appropriate for gestational age infant (AGA), SGA group showed higher perinatal mortality and apparent retardation in physical and mental development as well. The significance of difference between infant groups was correlated with percentile of SGA other than the gestational age. Therefore monitoring placental function and terminating pregnancy timely in women with PIH will enable to reduce the incidence of low percentile SGA and to improve infant health effectively.
