Pathologic changes in naturally occurring Cotylophoron cotylophorum infection in cattle

Lesions in the intestines of five cattle that died from acute Cotylophoron cotylophorum infection are described. There were degenerative changes in the duodenum and intestinal glands, with hyperaemia, haemorrhage and necrosis caused by the flukes migrating into the tunica mucosa. In places the degenerating glandular epithelium had become detached from its basement membrane and was desquamated, forming clumps in the widened glandular lumen.
