The treatment of patients with duodenal peptic ulcer with a synthetic prostaglandin E2 analog (enprostil)

The effect of enprostil on clinical features, acid production, blood gastrin level, and gastrodudoneal G- and D-cell count was studied in 22 patients with duodenal ulcer, as were late results of the therapy. Enprostil exhibited sufficiently high antinuclear activity. The treatment of patients with hypergastrinemia and/or pyloric G-cell hyperplasia was accompanied by antisecretory and antigastrin action. In patients with normogastrinemia and normal G-cell count, the treatment resulted in hypergastrinemia and pyloric D-cell hyperplasia.
