During a period of 6 mo. 300 .mu.g Buserelin (Hoe 766), a potent LHRH-agonist, was given intranasally from days 1-22 of the cycle to 9 women. Norethisteronacetate, 5 mg, was given orally from days 16-22 to cause regular bleeding. Within the 1st half of each cycle there were significantly higher levels of gonadotropins than in the 2nd half. During the 6 mo. there was no ovulation. Progesterone levels were constantly low. The estrogen level dropped constantly during the 6 mo. Androgen metabolism did not change. A remarkable increase of HDL -cholesterol, which might be important for women prone to arteriosclerosis, was found.
