Introduction of a segment of Rhizobium meliloti megaplasmid in Escherichia coli slows down its growth in minimal medium

When a 135kb segment of R. meliloti megaplasmid was introduced in E. coli AK529 with the help of R-prime plasmid pGR1, the resulting strain showed slower growth than AK529 strain in minimal medium, however, the growth patterns of these two strains in complete medium were nearly identical.
