The authors studied 30 patients suffering from « essential » headache, subdiveded into daily headache, migraine, and « mixed » headache. The patients were divided into two groups of 15 subjects each. The first group was treated with arnitriptyline and the second with perfenazine. Examining the clinical and psychological results, both groups were found to have experienced an improvement of their symptoms which however was more evident in the amitriptyline group. Of particular interest is the appearance of depressive symptomatology in the group treated with perfenazine.
