In the experiments, a hypothyroid state had been provoked in animals of the rat strain "CFY" by administering daily 0,01 g/kg methimazolum during two weeks ip. On the effect of methimazolum treatment, weight increase of the animals stopped, body temperature and cardiac frequency decreased moderately, while oxygen consumption decreased significantly. These were the general symptoms. Growth of the heart lagged as compared to the controls by about 30%, wet weight of the heart, dry substance, protein and RNS contents decreased significantly. DNS content and concentration displayed no significant change. The dry substance content expressed in the percentage of wet weight did not change significantly. For studying oedema readiness of the heart, further investigations are planned. Hitherto results gained in endogenous thyroxin-deficiency state provoked by methimazolum seem to support the direct regulating role of the heart muscle onto protein synthesis and the question arises as to the possibility of changes arising also in function.
