Descriptions are given of the polytene chromosomes of the salivary glands of the mosquito referred to as Anopheles hyrcanus nigerrimus Giles in this Review but treated by the authors as a distinct species. A chromosome map is proposed for it. The population studied is heterozygous for an inversion in the autosomal arm 3R. The banding pattern in a few areas in the chromosome map of nigerrimus closely corresponds to that in areas in the map of A. barbirostris Wulp.
